Telecoms finance looks to serve the hard to reach corners

The golden age of telecoms finance did not last far into the past decade; but while it lasted, it dominated financing volumes. Three main types of start-up – mobile networks, fibre-optic cables and satellite telephony – consumed prodigious amounts of capital during the period 1995-2002, propelled by high stock-market valuations and a ready supply of vendor finance from the main equipment manufacturers.
