Ahead of his presentation at TXF New York in September, CGI’s Vice President and Senior Offering Manager, Kitt Carswell, talks to TXF about the progress of the CGI Trade Innovation Lab and the continued development of the CGI Trade360 platform.
Henry Nichol (HN): When TXF last spoke to you in August 2016, CGI had just launched their Trade Innovation Lab. How is this progressing?
Kitt Carswell (KC): The CGI Trade Innovation Lab is very busy. We have several proof of concepts (POCs) in various states from proposal to execution. These include POCs with consortiums, clients and FinTechs.
HN: With a number of FinTechs entering the blockchain and distributed ledger space, how can these companies benefit from collaborating with CGI?
KC: CGI brings four major assets to a FinTech looking to partner. We have deep trade domain knowledge, knowledge and experience with blockchain technology, an interoperable global trade platform, CGI Trade360, and CGI’s Trade Innovation Lab where holistic FinTech and CGI Trade360 POCs and pilots can be conducted.
HN: There is a huge rise in interest from corporates for supply chain finance and open account products. What is CGI doing to meet these demands?
KC: CGI Trade360 provides a full range of open account and supply chain solutions including bank-assisted open account, a number of receivables finance solutions, including factoring, and a number of payables solutions including the end-to-end approved payables finance capabilities.
HN: The CGI Trade360 platform remains the industry leader in trade finance solutions. How do you plan to stay ahead of the game and further evolve the platform going forward?
KC: We continue to enhance the CGI Trade360 global trade platform offered as a SaaS, with three functional releases each year. In addition to continuous evolution of the functionality, CGI is also future proofing CGI Trade360 with the adoption of blockchain-enabled business models and intelligent process automation.
